Limiting gambling content and ads on social media
Unfollowing, muting, or blocking any social media accounts or pages can help to limit the amount of gambling-related content you see online. Many social media platforms also have their own controls that you can use to help avoid posts and ads related to gambling.
To limit gambling ads on Google Search, YouTube, and Discover, log into your Google account and visit My Ad Center. If you have personalised ads, go to Customise Ads > Sensitive and deselect ‘Gambling’.
The Meta Accounts Center allows you to make changes on all accounts linked to Meta, such as Facebook and Instagram accounts.
To limit gambling ads on Meta, go to Settings & Privacy > Settings > Meta Accounts Center > Ad preferences > Ad topics > Special topics, then deselect 'Gambling'.
You can also check and remove what other information is used to target ads under Ad settings, and hide any advertisers you've seen recently in Advertisers you’ve seen.
Reddit allows you to limit ads for sensitive topics, including gambling ads. On desktop, this option is available in User Settings > Safety and Privacy, while on the app it can be found in Account Settings.
There are a range of options to reduce the amount of gambling content you see on X by going to your account Settings:
- Under Privacy and safety > Ads preferences, deselect any Interests that are related to gambling.
- Under Privacy and safety > Content you see, unfollow any Topics and deselect any Interests that are related to gambling.
- Under Privacy and safety > Content you see > Search settings, make sure any accounts you’ve blocked or muted don’t show up in Search.
- Under Privacy and safety > Mute and block > Muted words, add any key words or phrases that you don’t want to see in your timeline and notifications.
